Pink and Blue Music Publishing Company was founded in the late 1970s by Alfred Marion Harned and Ernée Simpson. Alfred Marion Harned (1903-1994) was a Honolulu-based musician, arranger and songwriter. Ernée Simpson was a Los Angeles-based singer and songwriter.

In the late 1960s, during a singing gig at one of the local Honolulu hotels, Ernée happened to hire Alfred as her song arranger. This began a songwriting and performing collaboration that lasted until Alfred's death in 1994, resulting in a catalog of close to seventy (70) songs. Alfred wrote most of the songs in the catalog, with Ernée performing them at her singing gigs. However, sometimes they wrote songs together, or sometimes Ernée wrote songs all by herself. In all cases, Alfred came up with the final arrangements.

Ernée performed one of her own songs, called "You've Come A Long Way Baby," on the "Gong Show" and won first prize. The performance of her song on a nationally televised show made possible the formation of Pink And Blue Music Publishing Company, and the songs in the catalog were registered with ASCAP.

The next major exposure for one of the songs from the catalog was the Anita O'Day recording of "Candle Light And Wine," which was included in Miss O'Day's 1978 record album "Skylark: Live At Sometime."

In 2000, Alfred's son, Bob Harned, renewed activity with the publishing company by recording a CD of some of his father's songs and preparing the corresponding sheet music for publication. This first CD, called "Harned Sings Harned," has Bob singing ten of his father's songs, including "Candle Light and Wine."

Bob's second CD, "Eat, Drink, And Be Singing," is a compilation of songs about food and drink, all sung by Bob. This was recorded at the request of Arthur Schwartz, the former host of WOR radio's "Food Talk," heard in the five-state metro New York area. Schwartz played these songs regularly on his program as lead-ins for his various food and restaurant segments. "Candle Light and Wine" is included in this CD.

In his third CD, called "My Hawaiian Songbook," Bob sings ten favorite Tin Pan Alley Hawaiian songs that he fondly remembers enjoying while growing up in Hawaii.

Bob's latest CD, called "The Languages of Love." includes love songs in twelve different languages. Besides one in English, the other eleven are in French, German, Italian, Russian, Spanish, Yiddish, Neapolitan, and also in Turkish, Hawaiian, Japanese, and Tagalog Filipino.

All four CDs and the sheet music for “Harned Sings Harned” are available for purchase from Pink And Blue Music Publishing Company using this order form.

Bob Harned continues to keep Pink And Blue Music Publishing Company active and hopes to interest other singers in performing songs from his company's catalog.
